The following job is currently open at the German Embassy in Washington, DC.

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Washington, DC, represents German interests in the United States. As such, the Embassy offers you an attractive and unique workplace. The Embassy is looking to fill a full-time position (40-hour work week) as Chef de Partie for the German Ambassador’s Residence as soon as possible.


Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working in all areas of the kitchen: garde manger, entremetier, saucier, patissiere

• Executing all catering aspects of the Ambassador’s official events, in particular preparing breakfasts, lunches, dinners, buffets, cocktail receptions/canapes

• Assisting in developing menus

• Assisting with purchasing, researching, organizing and cleaning the kitchen

• Supporting the Head Chef with the Events Team and Ambassador's Office

• Assisting the Head Chef with all duties arising in the Residence Kitchen and serving as deputy in his absence


Qualifications and Requirements:

• 2-5 years experience in a professional kitchen

• Teamwork skills and experience in a multi-cultural work environment is preferred

• Willingness to learn and think creatively

• Service consciousness and good organizational skills

• Abililty to work under pressure, flexibility to schedules and changes

• Able to lift up to 50 lbs throughout a work day

• Good command of English

• Loyalty and discretion to the German Embassy

• Enthusiasm for Hospitality

• Interest in quality, sustainable, and seasonal ingredients

• Advanced knife skills

• Stock and sauces preparation

• Passion and interest for high level cookery

• Willingness to work overtime and/or occasional weekend work

Pay:

Pay is based on a 40-hour week; overtime is compensated at 1.5 times the regular pro-rated hourly rate. On average there will be 20 hours overtime per month. The gross starting salary for the position (after the probationary period) is currently $4,996 per month. The position will be open-ended, provided the candidate proves suited to the job during the probationary period. A one-year contract will be signed initially.


Contract terms and compensation are based on local law, as per the standard employment agreement for non-diplomatic staff at the German foreign missions in the U.S. and the corresponding pay scale.

Prior to hiring, the successful candidate will be required to show adequate health through a medical examination by the Embassy’s partner physician. In addition, a background check will be conducted. Your cooperation is required for hiring.
