Welcome
Enter our German Heritage Competition!
What comes to mind when you think of German heritage? Beer mugs and Dirndl? Or maybe Dirk Nowitzki and Diana Kruger?
Participate in our German Heritage creative competition on Instagram for a chance to win two tickets to Germany (sponsored by Lufthansa). Respond to the question “What does German heritage mean today?” by expressing your thoughts through a photo, collage, or image.
This competition centers around German-American Heritage Day, October 6th. This day marks the arrival of the first German settlers in the US and it celebrates the positive impact that German immigrants have made in the US. It was celebrated for the first time in 1983 when President Ronald Reagan officially proclaimed October 6th as the German-American Day, honoring the 300th anniversary of the first German-American immigrants to the United States.
Please submit your photo, collage, or picture with a short explanation of what it shows or symbolizes by September 5th, 2024, by email to win@wash.diplo.de
We will select the three best works and post them on Instagram (@GermanyinUSA)– our followers will vote for their favorite entry to determine the winner. All three finalists will be invited to Washington, DC, for the weekend of October 5th to 6th, 2024, to participate in a festive awards ceremony. They will also get the opportunity to join us for a German-American Heritage Walk through DC on Heritage Day. The finalist that receives most votes per comment on our Instagram channel by noon on October 4th will be the winner and receive two tickets to Germany.
Conditions of participation and data policy:
The competition is in no way sponsored, supported, or organized by Instagram. The sole contact and responsible party is the German Embassy Washington.
Participants must be 18 years or older and must reside in the US. By submitting a photo, collage, or image to confirm that it is your original work and you grant us the rights to publish and use it free of charge.
