The German Consulate General in San Francisco is headed by Consul General Oliver Schramm, Germany's highest ranking representative in the Pacific Northwest.

The area of jurisdisction of the Consulate General in San Francisco covers Northern California, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and U.S. territories Baker, Howland, Jarvis, Johnston Islands, Midway and Palmyra Island.

Political Department

Consul General Oliver Schramm also heads the Political Department. He provides the German Government with a comprehensive view of political, economic, scientific and cultural developments in the eight States of his consular district. In return, he informs American partners and the general public about important developments in Germany, establishes contacts and fosters ties between Germans and Americans active in these fields. The Consulate General cooperates with a number of German organizations headquartered in the region as well as with the German Honorary Consuls in their consular district.

Economic and Scientific Affairs

As the Economic Counselor Marta Kujawa provides support in economic and commercial affairs in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, with a focus on technology and innovation policy, startups and venture capital. In cooperation with the German Representative of German Business for the Western United States and Germany Trade & Invest he serves as a point of contact for businesses, startups and Investors.


Beate Antonich is the Scientific Liaison Officer at the Consulate. She serves as your first point of contact to German universities, research institutions, research funding agencies, and German government departments dealing with science policy. She facilitates collaboration and exchange between scientists and institutions in Germany and in the Consulate's administrative district. Furthermore, she organizes outreach activities to showcase German science and expands and supports the local network of scientists living in our district who have a personal connection to Germany.

Cultural and Press Affairs

The Deputy Consul General Franciska Obermeyer is responsible for fostering the cultural ties between Germany and the Pacific Northwest and for the public diplomacy outreach of the Consulate General.

One of her taks is to coordinate the activities of the partnering institutions that form the network of the foreign cultural and educational policy, such as the Goethe Institute, the German Academic Exchange Service, the German International School of Silicon Valley, the German International School of Portland, the German language advisors, as well as many more organizations and institutions active in this field.

As part of her public diplomacy she informs the media and the general public about topics related to Germany. She is also the central point of contact for journalistic inquiries.

Consular and Legal Affairs

Consul Kerstin Klee and her team provide a wide spectrum of indispensable consular services to German and US-citizens as well as third-country nationals. In providing services throughout its extensive area of jurisdiction, the Consular Department is competently assisted by the German Honorary Consuls in Anchorage, Honolulu, Portland and Seattle.

Consul Andrea Assmann is responsible for managing the Consulate General's day-to-day operations. She also deals with the Consulate General's personnel, business, communications, maintenance and security needs.
