Mannes Sounds Festival:
“The Fantasy World of Writer, Philosopher, Composer E.T.A. Hoffmann and His Influence”
The German Consulate General Co-presents:
Since the year 2000, Mannes Sounds Festival has presented annual concerts on a wide range of topics as part of the Mannes Sounds Festival at the German Consulate General.
Founded in 1999 by Pavlina Dokovska, chair of the Mannes Piano department, the Mannes Sounds festival presents more than 20 concerts annually performed by young artists from Mannes School of Music, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and the School of Drama as well as masterclasses and lectures by distinguished faculty members and renowned guest artists.
On February 26, the young artists of Mannes School of Music will perform works tributed to E.T.A. Hoffmann: a German writer, philosopher, music critic and composer, who was a major influence on the Romantic movement in literature and music through fostering the artistic development of Schumann and Brahms, and many other major composers and writers of the 19th and 20th centuries.
This year’s music is by Hoffmann, Schumann, Brahms, Offenbach, Tchaikovsky/Pletnev and the young composer of Mannes, Keaton Hoy. There will also be dramatic readings from works by E.T.A. Hoffmann. The program is curated by John Hargraves, Ph.D.
Date and Time: Wednesday, Feb 26 at 6:30 pm (doors open at 6:00 pm)
Location: German House, 871 UN Plaza, New York, NY 10017
