An evening of music by composers of the Second Viennese School performed by Ensemble Fantasque, that not only showcases musical rigor, but also wit, swagger, and intense passion.

This concert is the inauguration of Ensemble Fantasque, a music ensemble founded by Tengku Irfan with the mission of performing music of the 20th and 21st centuries, alongside underperformed works of earlier centuries. Aller guten Dinge sind drei (All Good Things Come in Threes) is inscribed at the top of the score of Berg's Chamber Concerto. Berg inscribed musical themes for each member of the Second Viennese School (Schoenberg, Webern, and Berg). Even though it is evident that numbers are important in this work, one cannot deny the deep intense emotions that pervade throughout this piece.

Naturally, this concert will have to include three pieces since all good things come in threes. Webern's Concerto for Nine provides transparent melodic ideas, and Schoenberg's Friede auf Erden contains lush and romantic harmonies that will cause tear-jerkers even to newcomers of music. Since this year marks the 150th birthday of Schoenberg, what better way to celebrate his legacy alongside the music of his students. One does not need to be well-versed in twelve-tone technique to enjoy these works - just come with open ears and hearts!

Date and Time: Friday, December 13th at 7:30 PM
