The Münchner Lach- und Schiessgesellschaft entertained more than 300 guests in two sold-out performances at the German Embassy with their satirical and political cabaret program, “Extended: The Anniversary Program – 50 Years of Müncher Lach- und Schiessgesellschaft”, on April 30 and May 1.

In the style of traditional German political cabaret, Thomas Wenke, Sonja Kling, and Ecco Meineke kept the audience in high spirits with clever puns and double-entendres, parodies of various aspects of popular and political culture in Germany, and impersonations of a wide variety of characters in the fast-paced sketches of the program, which offered a humorous and, at times, scathing critique of life in Germany over the last 50 years.

The storyline revolves around the character of Mr. Deutschland, who undergoes an unconventional psychotherapy. As a result, a variety of recognizable politicians and important figures from the recent past as well as characters evocative of the changing political movements and the zeitgeist of each of the last five decades make appearances.

The German Embassy would like to thank its partners —Deutsche Welle and Goethe-Institut Washington—as well as the generous sponsors of the performances by the Münchner Lach- und Schiessgesellschaft—Lufthansa, Dräger Foundation,Volkswagen, Deutsche Telekom, Deutsche Post, and Bayer AG.

The proceeds from these ticketed events goes to support the programming of the Friends of Goethe-Insitut Washington. The Münchner Lach- und Schiessgesellschaft also performed at the German Consulate General in New York City on May 5, which was made possible with support of BMW in addition to the above-mentioned sponsors.
